Infrastructure

The infrastructure of the three communities in Louise, clearly demonstrates the readiness, reliability, and long-term growth capacity the municipality has to offer. for commercial, industrial, and agri-based investment.


Transportation & Logistics

  1. Proximity to major highways. Highway 3 runs directly through the municipality. The Trans-Canada Highway is only 83km to the north for national transportation routes.
  2. Rural road maintenance is good quality being a recipient of the Most Improved Roads by Manitoba Good Roads Awards.
  3. Rail transport - Boundary Trail Railway (BTR) runs from the Municipality of Pembina to Morden. Winnipeg is the closest city with access to the Canadian National Railway.
  4. Border and Land Ports - the closest border is 10 minutes south to the USA port of entry.
  5. Water Transport/Ports - there are 3 water ports, one in the north of the province 1106kms away, the Port of Churchill Arctic Seaport. To the east 3589kms away is the Halifax Atlantic Port and to the west 2209kms is the Vancouver Pacific Port.
  6. Air Transport - two airports are located in the larger city centres of the province. Brandon Airport is 165kms and Winnipeg International Airport is 195kms away.
  7. Courier services run daily to Winnipeg for smaller local parcels for pick up and delivery
  8. Larger city centres - Winnipeg, the capital of Manitoba is only 148kms to the northeast and Brandon the second largest city in the province is 105kms to the west.

 

Utilities and Core Services

  1. Electricity - Manitoba Hydro provides services to rural and urban locations
  2. Electrical rates are one of the lowest in the country at ~8.5 - 9 cents/kWh regulated by the Public Utilities Board
  3. Reliability is stable with hydro-electric power
  4. Water Supply varies for each community within the municipality. Pilot Mound water is supplied from the Glenora aquifer through pipeline to Pilot Mound with a reverse osmosis membrane unit, making this some of the best drinking water in southern Manitoba. 
  5. Wastewater & sewer - sewer systems present in both Pilot Mound and Crystal City.

 

Industrial & Agricultural Support 

  1. Paterson Grain, Grain elevator located in Crystal City for grain handling and marketing solutions
  2. Equipment suppliers and agri-services are located in Crystal City, Pilot Mound and near by communities of Killarney. Ranging from supplies, manufacturing, seeds, chemicals and consulting services.

 

Emergency & Protective Services

  1. Fire Protection Services - Fire halls in both Crystal City and Pilot Mound, volunteer run
  2. RCMP Services are out of Carman, with a local office in Manitou
  3. EMS - hospital, clinic and emergency located in Crystal City
