This month’s Louise Business Spotlight features Wall Carpentry, a growing business based in the community of Crystal City.
Owner Nathan Wall recently sat down with me to share the story behind his business. As a home-based operation, Wall Carpentry offers the flexibility to take on projects that fit the workload while ensuring every detail meets the client’s expectations. Nathan realized early on that he enjoyed the intricate detailed aspects of carpentry, which lead to him finding his niche working primarily as a finish carpenter.
Although Nathan is the sole employee, he enjoys the variety that comes with running his own business, especially the opportunity to work closely with clients. Helping bring a customer’s vision to life is one of the most rewarding parts of his work. Business ownership has also allowed him to meet a wide range of people throughout the region.
Through quality craftsmanship, dedication to customer service, and strong attention to detail, word continues to spread about Wall Carpentry. Much of Nathan’s work comes through referrals, word of mouth, and positive online reviews.
Some of Wall Carpentry’s most popular services include interior finishing, trim installation, staircases, and decorative ceiling beams. For many projects, Nathan recommends being involved as finish carpenter early in the planning process. For example, by being present during the framing stage, he can help ensure that doorways, trim, and other finishing elements are sized appropriately and that any necessary adjustments can be made before construction progresses.
Many potential customers may not realize that Wall Carpentry can also assist with the design process. Nathan provides suggestions and simple mock-ups that showcase different wood options and design concepts, helping clients visualize the finished product before installation begins.
Nathan enjoys operating his business in Crystal City and appreciates the support he has received from the community through referrals and positive feedback. Looking ahead, Nathan hopes to continue expanding his customer base beyond Crystal City. One of his long-term goals is to establish a standalone workshop where items can be pre-fabricated, increasing efficiency and creating new opportunities for growth.

Armonia Massage - September 2026
For September's Louise Spotlight, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Dallas Rosteski, owner and operator of Armonia Massage in Pilot Mound. Dallas and her husband moved to Pilot Mound in 2023 to be closer to family. Just a few months later, she opened the doors to Armonia Massage. Now entering its fourth year of business, Armonia Massage continues to thrive and has already expanded into a larger location, allowing for a second treatment room and the addition of new services.
Dallas knew she wanted a career focused on helping people while also providing a sustainable livelihood. Today, she has built a successful business that allows her to do exactly that. Dallas brings an impressive range of qualifications and experience to her practice. Her credentials include a joint mobilization course, four years of experience working alongside osteopaths and Chinese Medicine Doctors, and a variety of fitness certifications. This diverse background enables her to take a holistic approach to client care and wellness.
For first-time clients, Dallas recommends the 60-minute therapeutic massage. It is an excellent introduction for anyone who may be unsure of what to expect from massage therapy and provides a well-rounded treatment experience.
Therapeutic massage remains the most popular service offered at Armonia Massage, with appointments ranging from 30 minutes to 120 minutes. Among the retail products available, Vitalizer Nutrition Packs and Liquid BioCell from Shaklee, a recent addition, have become client favourites.
One of the things Dallas enjoys most about her business is the opportunity to work with clients who appreciate a balanced and relaxed approach to life. She is grateful for the positive feedback and word-of-mouth support that clients share throughout the community. Her favourite part of being a massage therapist is witnessing the progress her clients make from one visit to the next and helping them achieve their wellness goals.
As Armonia Massage continues to grow, Dallas hopes to further expand her space and capacity. Her goal is to ensure regular clients can continue to book services with ease while also creating opportunities to welcome new clients and meet the growing demand for her services.
Cudmore Brothers Hardware - August 2026
While picking up promotional items from Cudmore Brothers Hardware in Crystal City recently, I must admit it was my first time stepping inside the store. I had driven by many times but had never stopped in. Like many people, I was under the impression that the business primarily focused on farm equipment. I quickly discovered they offer so much more.
Originally from Cartwright, Keith Doerksen and his father, Mel Doerksen, purchased the business in 2002. At that time, the store was located on Broadway in Crystal City. When a fire destroyed the building, an important decision had to be made, rebuild on the existing site or relocate to Hay Street, where they were already renting space to store larger farm equipment.
The decision was made to expand and relocate. The property on Hay Street was purchased, and the current store was constructed in 2019, providing significantly more space to better serve customers.
In 2022, Phil Doerksen joined the business and is now one of the owners alongside his brother Keith. As the business continued to grow, additional storage space became necessary. The brothers also wanted the ability to assemble augers indoors, allowing them to work more efficiently year-round. To accommodate these needs, approximately 6,000 square feet was added to the back of the building in 2022–2023.
Today, Cudmore Brothers Hardware offers far more than agricultural equipment. Customers can find bolts, augers, hopper bins, plumbing supplies, electrical products, paint, and trusted brands such as Benjamin Moore and Milwaukee. The team is known for its friendly service and willingness to special-order items when needed.
Before making a trip to a larger centre, consider checking with Cudmore Brothers Hardware first—you may be surprised by what they have in stock. And if you're searching for that hard-to-find part on the weekend, remember they are open Saturdays from 9am – 12pm and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Pilot Mound Pharmacy - July 2026
This month, I headed to Pilot Mound to meet with Amanda Young, owner, manager, and pharmacist at Pilot Mound Pharmacy.
Amanda began her career with the pharmacy in 2009 as a pharmacist and went on to purchase the business in 2015. Taking ownership was a natural progression, as her knowledge of the industry, regulations, and day-to-day operations made the decision an easy one. Becoming a local business owner has also allowed Amanda to further support her community through sponsorships, community projects, and local events and teams.
Amanda and her staff greatly appreciate the support of customers who choose to shop locally. Operating in a smaller community allows them to build meaningful relationships with their customers and provide a level of personalized care and service that is often difficult to find in larger centres.
While many people know Pilot Mound Pharmacy for filling prescriptions and its retail offerings, the pharmacy also provides a variety of additional services. These include prescription delivery within Pilot Mound and Crystal City, pill packaging, and faxed refill requests to prescribers. Throughout the year, the pharmacy offers vaccinations and blood pressure monitoring services.
The pharmacy also participates in a safe medication disposal program, allowing residents to safely dispose of unused medications and sharps. In addition, the store features a wide selection of health and wellness products, seasonal items, and giftware. If customers are unable to find a specific product, Amanda encourages them to ask, as many items can be specially ordered.
Looking to the future, Amanda hopes Manitoba pharmacists will be granted expanded scope services already available in several other provinces. These services include prescribing contraceptives and providing therapeutic substitutions, helping patients access care more efficiently while reducing some of the pressures faced by other healthcare providers.

Letter Cut - June 2026
I had the pleasure of meeting and visiting Brian Reimer of Letter Cut this past week. What a bright open space his facility is.
Brian has been part of the community for 22 years, originally from Cartwright and opened the doors to the business in 2013 with his wife Jane. They chose Crystal City not only because it is their home, but because there are a lot of advantages of having a business in a smaller community.
Originally it began with making cabinets for the first few years. In subsequent years at a Home Show in Morden they brought a new product, signs originally for indoor spaces. Visitors to the booth wanted them for outdoor spaces and thus outdoor address signs were a great success and are now their primary product.
If you haven’t seen their website, www.shop.mylettercut.com it is very well done and worth the look. They are currently working on making ordering online even easier. If it is your first time on their site, Brian recommends viewing the templates, printing off one you are considering and placing it in the space you want to see. This will ensure you know how the address will look in your space.
He appreciates all the local support the community has shown in purchasing his product. Brian enjoys driving and seeing the signs he made for his customers.
Many don’t know, but Letter Cut can also cut a variety of materials for many different projects. Their CNC cutter can cut any type of wood base, foam, plastic or many other materials for custom projects.
Looking towards the future, a new product of backlit addresses is on the horizon and will be available soon. I look forward to seeing them!
